After a couple of days with record high temperatures last week, we finally have some fall temperatures. I’ve been ready for a while. It’s weird, for example, to drive to the curling club in a t-shirt and only put on layers when I arrive instead of wearing a jacket en route to an activity that takes place on ice. There is almost no coloration in the foliage here, but that will come. I may drive west this weekend to steal a few more hours amidst the yellows, reds, and oranges that dominate the landscape for a short time each year, but that will depend on what other plans I might make in the meantime and where the forecasts say the leaves will be closest to their peak colors.
I enjoy fall. I don’t watch as much football or other television as I once did, but the season brings more routine (and I am a fan of routines as I’ve written here more than once) as church activities and curling fill some of my mornings and evenings. It also makes afternoon walks more appealing and my long weekend walks less taxing, though at the cost of making evening walks harder as the daylight shortens. I may even start jogging again, which is something I did in the summer heat but haven’t kept up during my recent round of travel. My ankles have been acting up again, but I want to give basketball another go this winter so I’ve already started some training specific to lateral movements too.
I continue to strive for a bit of novelty in this season also. Just this morning, I had AI make me a playlist of instrumental tracks across genres that I’ve not yet listened to and that I’ll try out as I work over the coming days. If even one or two of the twenty plus songs resonate, then that will be a plus. I’m also planning a few new recipes to try; I’ve had the itch to experiment with fancy after my Slovenia cooking class but I haven’t actually done it yet.
Love it? Hate it? Meh? Comment here.
